BERGWERCK

composition and sound design for theater, radio, film and other media

Since 2018, Florentin Berger-Monit and Johannes Wernicke have been collaboratively developing compositions and sound design for theater, radio plays, and other media. Their distinctive soundscapes are shaped by the timbre of self-conceived and self-built electroacoustic instruments, as well as by experimental recording techniques. With their diverse backgrounds in literature, music, and media art, the two artists create dramaturgically refined, project-oriented works—an interplay of restraint and overwhelming intensity, far from mere effect.

In 2020, they were nominated for the German Radio Play Award (Deutscher Hörspielpreis der ARD) for their music in the radio play Mein hohles Herz singt Lieder der Versammlung (directed by Henri Hüster). Most recently, Berger-Monit and Wernicke worked on the two-part radio play Mein Lieblingstier heißt Winter by Ferdinand Schmalz (NDR), set to be released in spring 2023.

Florentin Berger-Monit is a musician and 3D designer. He studied Language Arts at the University of Applied Arts Vienna.

Johannes Wernicke is a musician and media artist. He studied Music and Media Art at the Bern University of the Arts and Interface Cultures at the University of Art and Design Linz.

Selected Projects:
In 2018/19, the duo composed music for the radio plays final girls by Gerhild Steinbuch and Ante oder der Thunfisch by Joël László (Bayerischer Rundfunk, directed by Henri Hüster); for Richard III by W. Shakespeare at Theater am Engelsgarten Wuppertal (directed by Henri Hüster); and for Manaraga / Diary of a Master Chef by Vladimir Sorokin for Steirischer Herbst at Schauspielhaus Graz (directed by Blanka Rádóczy).

In 2020/21, they worked on the radio plays Mein hohles Herz singt Lieder der Versammlung by various authors and the radio play manifesto for body parts Am Rande des Untergangs vergnügt sich das Kapital by Joël László (both Deutschlandfunk Kultur), as well as Crime and Punishment at Konzert Theater Bern, all directed by Henri Hüster. The premiere of Three Sisters by A. Chekhov at the Wuppertal Opera House had to be postponed from February 2021 to May 2022 due to the pandemic.

Most recently, Berger-Monit and Wernicke contributed to the two-part radio play Mein Lieblingstier heißt Winter by Ferdinand Schmalz (NDR), the world premiere of Selma Matter’s Grelle Tage at Schauspielhaus Wien (directed by Charlotte Lorenz), Johann Holtrop (Rainald Goetz) at Theater Paderborn, and Ihre Stelle ist gesichert by Jens Nielsen for SRF.
